Vor dem Hintergrund der Gewährung finanzieller Freiheiten von dezentralen Wissenschaftseinheiten und Entscheidungsträgern werden Budgetierung und Finanzierung als Elemente des New Public Management (NPM) begründet. Nach den grundlegenden Begriffsklärungen werden unterschiedliche staatliche Modelle der Haushaltsglobalisierung und der Mittelvergabe verglichen. Dadurch werden die staatlichen Rahmenbedingungen verdeutlicht und typisiert, innerhalb derer ein Gestalter von Budgetierungs- und Finanzierungsmodellen sich bewegen kann. Zu den externen Rahmenbedingungen kommen die internen hinzu: Die Strategie der Wissenschaftseinrichtung im Spannungsfeld zwischen Profilbildung, Einnahmenmaximierung und Diversifizierung der finanziellen Basis liefert die Grundlage für konkrete Budgetierungsmodelle. Der Zusammenhang zwischen Strategie und operativer Umsetzung wird an Beispielen verdeutlicht.

In einer explorativen Studie geht es um junge Gründer und Beschäftigte in kleinen IT-Startup-Firmen, die im Brennpunkt des Strukturwandels der Arbeit stehen. Dieser Wandel erfordert ein Handeln, das mit Blick auf den Arbeitsalltag ebenso wie mit Blick auf die gesamte Berufsbiographie in immer stärkerem Maße an den Imperativen des Marktes, an ökonomischer Effizienz sowie an Forderungen nach Autonomie, Selbstverantwortung, Selbstkontrolle, Selbstmotivation, nach fachlich-professionell hohen Qualitätsstandards, nach Flexibilität und nach permanenter Lern- und Innovationsbereitschaft ausgerichtet ist. Hier wird anhand umfangreicher Interviews danach gefragt, in welchem Maße die persönlichen Strebungen, Ziele und Orientierungen der Gründer und Mitarbeiter von IT-Firmen solchen Anforderungen entsprechen.
Weiter werden Ergebnisse zur zentralen Fragestellung im Titel dieses Bandes mitgeteilt: Für die Mehrzahl der hier untersuchten jungen Erwachsenen ist die Arbeit offensichtlich der zentrale Lebensinhalt; die Grenzen zwischen Arbeit und Freizeit, Berufs- und Privatleben scheinen sich vollständig aufzulösen. Aber lässt sich eine solche Form der extrem arbeitszentrierten und entgrenzten Lebensgestaltung auf Dauer durchhalten? Kollidiert diese Lebensform nicht mit festen Partnerschaften und mit dem Wunsch nach Kindern? Zu solchen Fragen lassen sich erste Antworten formulieren: So sind es vielfach Konflikte in den IT-Firmen sowie individuelle Zielkonflikte, die zu einer Relativierung der entgrenzten Lebensgestaltung, zu einem stärkeren Gewicht des Privat- und Familienlebens neben der Arbeit und zu unterschiedlichen Lebensgestaltungsformen bei Frauen und Männern führen.

Excerpt (Preface) Electricity, one of the key infrastructure sectors, plays a very important role in socio-economic development of a country. Developing countries with significant gap in the provision of electricity have attempted to provide a conducive environment for investment in the power sector. Initiatives towards the same are evident in terms of opening up the sector for private and foreign investment, setting up of independent regulatory institutions and bringing regulatory and policy changes to enhance competition in the sector. However, scope, pace and sequence of such reforms varies across countries.
This book provides a detailed overview of the reform process in the electricity sector in India since the early 1990s, highlighting the key policy changes that have led to opening up the sector for investment and competition in generation, transmission and the distribution segments.
This book also provides an insight into in the reform process, through a comparative assessment, adopted in key developing economies including Argentina, Brazil, China (PRC), India, Mexico and Thailand. While the book does not attempt a comprehensive analysis of the way process of power reform has influenced private investment in the power sector in developing countries. Cities play a vital role in economic growth and prosperity. Sustainable development of cities largely depends upon their physical, social and institutional infrastructure. In this context, the importance of transportation system is paramount. Urban transportation is probably the single most important component instrumental in shaping urban development and urban living. While urban areas may be viewed as engines of growth, urban transport is, figuratively and literally, the wheel of that engine.
